“You're in the presence of your future.” -P-Funk
This book is a deepening investigation of Hip-Hopish themes (archetypal quadrant: body rocking, spinning, Graffiti, and waxing poetically). Although nowhere in this book will you find such a tainted word as “Hip Hop” (except in this opening paragraph). Although your attachment to the word is hard to break, you will find once you break it a deeper organic impetus for creativity will emerge. The reason for the obsolescence of the word is that it has been abducted and converted over time to fit a commercialized business model. The word has been sold to the highest bid and in that case I rather the word be dead than used to describe the essential expression of LIFE. The majority of thoughts in this work are based around all that was left from the fragments of Hip Hops original “Wild Style” whole. That whole is the radical whole represented by the 1982 movie “Wild Style”. So, the word Hip Hop is rather in essence WILD STYLE, all terrain, multi-dimensional.
The Pedagogy of Wild Style is not a return to the Old School styles of the early 80’s that were documented in the film; but rather if it is possible, it is a RETURN TO THE FUTURE. It is not reliving what has already been lived. It is similar to “Back to the Future” in which one goes back in time in full body, with all the knowledge of the future to interrupt the past. When this happens the future and past are new in the ever present moments that are altered by this RETURNING (we are forever past and future). We go to the past or the radical root to draw on the sweet nectar that was left there, not to superficially steal styles to costume the present (RETURNING TO THE FUTURE=pure nostalgia, but active and alternative).
Those during that amazing time of the early 80’s show that there was an immediacy for creativity, vivacity, and a urge to exist uniquely. Thus the word WILD STYLE is similar to the word HOLY SPIRIT or MOJO. The word pulls one out into the streets to “get it on”.
In arriving at the Absolute Truth of there being no future or past in the present, because it can forever be returned to as presence, there is always a forever present alteration (which is your life right NOW). The ability to see the past not as old but as forever new is an activity of WILD STYLE. In these pages are the attempts at RETURNING TO THE FUTURE, and in that the definitions of WILD STYLE will forever change. Which gives forth another activity of WILD STYLE, which is a forever changing of definitions that define our reality. WILD STYLE is already every definition or no definition or rather the act of defining reality.
The book follows a commentary on “Gothic Futurism” which is the only gospel left by the prophet Rammellzee that attempts an investigation of WILD STYLE. Since, a RETURNING TO THE FUTURE is a major theme of WILD STYLE, my commentary is inserted in between the arrivals and departures of this gospel. In a way RETURNING TO THE FUTURE is gothic and futuristic at the same moment. The gospel is then followed by a long ranting of the art of WRECKING SHOP.
How to WRECK SHOP is a pedagogical method, unlike the policies of anarchism. WRECKING SHOP seeks disorder prior to consciousness. To seek that which is prior to consciousness is to seek an outside or an outer-ing of all sides and no sides of consciousness. Even then WRECKING SHOP needs to find walls, wreck them and then to seek what is outside those walls, and wreck those too. WRECKING SHOP is completely dependent on walls to wreck. Following the Tibetan Rinpoche statement: THAT ALL IS SPACE EXTENDING INTO SPACE. WRECKING SHOP is a revelation of space. We see what is and in essence formulate our freedom WILDLY STYLED and WRECK SHOP simultaneously.
If “to be conscious” is to formulate causality for existence than WRECKING SHOP is moving beyond causality and thought-like framing of existence. WRECKING SHOP takes the position of there being no real order just an alternating flow of disorder in disorder which accidentally poses the illusion of order. All this disorder and incurred disorder is compiled in what is called WILD STYLE That which comes from the mother ship but still lives in the jungle is WILD STYLE. That which lives off the chaotic funk of the city is WILD STYLE. Those that live in the country have already reached an expanded space and need to move to the city to experience WILD STYLE.
